North Rift and Bungoma ODM Leaders Endorse Saboti MP Caleb Amisi for Minority Leader Position

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials from North Rift and Bungoma counties are advocating for Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to succeed Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi as the Minority Leader in the National Assembly.

Speaking in Kitale, the ODM Secretary in Trans Nzoia John Simiyu highlighted Amisi’s resilience and steadfast commitment since 2014, emphasizing his dedication and loyalty to the party as key reasons for their support.

“Hon. Caleb Amisi has been resilient, steadfast, committed, and loyal to the Orange Party. He has actively participated in party programs both inside and outside Parliament, including protests against oppressive governments,” Mr. Simiyu said.

The ODM Chairman in Endebess, Aineh Masinde, stated that Mr. Amisi is the first-ever MP to remain steadfast with party leader Raila Odinga while others have deserted him during difficult times, even facing challenges and opposition from President William Ruto’s administration.

The ODM Woman Leader for Trans Nzoia, Dorothy Aliuba, further argued that Amisi’s contributions and loyalty have been underappreciated.

“It is also noteworthy that most ODM MPs from Western hold significant leadership positions in Parliament. The delay in acknowledging Amisi’s role is perplexing. We wonder how long we will continue to overlook this dedicated young MP,” Aliuba said.

The ODM officials also noted that the position of Minority Leader was previously held by Trans Nzoia through Ford Kenya in the defunct National Super Alliance (NASA) and believe it is time to reclaim it.

“As the Orange Democratic Movement in Trans Nzoia County, we hope that our party leader, Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, will recognize his strong support base in the North Rift, particularly in Trans Nzoia County, by appointing Hon. Caleb Amisi as the Minority Leader in the National Assembly,” Aliuba concluded.

They also noted that Mr. Amisi, the only ODM MP in the North Rift to be re-elected twice and consistently uphold the ODM banner amidst intense political competition, has further demonstrated his political acumen and dedication to Mr. Odinga through his recent performance in the presidential campaigns in Trans Nzoia.

KNUNM Trans Nzoia Secretary, Edward Cheruiyot, stated that despite mediation efforts by the Ministry of Labour, which appointed a conciliator, no resolution had been reached. “The union has done its part, but the government has failed to avert the strike. The conciliator was appointed, but no meetings have taken place, and no progress has been made,” Cheruiyot said. At the core of the strike are several unresolved issues. One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
