A group of traders from the Gema community in Kitale has voiced their disappointment in President William Ruto, accusing him of orchestrating the ousting of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which they view as a significant act of political betrayal.
The traders argued that replacing Gachagua with Kithure Kindiki demonstrates a profound betrayal to the voters from the Mt. Kenya region since president Ruto had previously promised there would be no repeat of the strained relationship he had with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We are extremely unhappy with the developments that led to Rigathi Gachagua's removal from office. President Ruto has betrayed the electorate from the Mt. Kenya region, which overwhelmingly supported him," said Mr. Abraham Njenga.
They stated that the president must face the political consequences of Gachagua being pushed out of office, emphasizing that the Mt. Kenya region will forge its own political path in the 2027 general elections and will not support his re-election.
“The consequence of the president's actions will be that the Mt. Kenya region denies him votes, as he has shown us that he cannot keep a political deal despite the commitments he made,” said Ms Selina.
They also warned the newly sworn-in Deputy President Kindiki to be prepared to become a victim of a similar scheme that led to his predecessor's impeachment if he begins to question the conduct of his boss.
