Health Cabinet Secretary Pushes for Enhanced Community Outreach to Promote SHA

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deboran Mulongo has emphasized the need for enhanced community engagement and awareness efforts to promote a wider understanding of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Dr. Mulongo said that heightened awareness efforts will help Kenyans better understand how the program operates, addressing emerging concerns and clearing up any confusion.

"I urge all leaders to help spread the word about the importance of the SHA. The uptake so far has been commendable," she said during her tour of Kapenguria Referral Hospital in West Pokot County.

She stated that the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) is a key step in the journey toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which aims to ensure that all Kenyans can access quality healthcare without facing financial hardship.

"Through SHA, we are easing the burden of accessing essential services, particularly for vulnerable groups. Key services, such as renal care and maternal health, have been enhanced to improve access and ensure that everyone receives the care they need," she noted.

The visit involved a thorough evaluation of the hospital’s operations to identify areas for improvement, with the goal of enhancing the quality of services provided to the public.

West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komolle commended the Cabinet Secretary for her strong dedication to advancing healthcare in Kenya, expressing hope that the initiative will greatly benefit local communities.

The conciliator was appointed, but no meetings have taken place, and no progress has been made,” Cheruiyot said. At the core of the strike are several unresolved issues. One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
