Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has pledged to
maintain his oversight role over President William Ruto’s government, despite
its support for Raila Odinga's bid for the AUC chairmanship and the inclusion
of some members from his ODM party in the cabinet.
Mr. Amisi said his oversight role is a constitutional mandate
as a legislator, which he exercises on behalf of the electorate he represents
in Parliament, who expect him to keep the government in check to ensure it
performs its mandate.
“My work as an MP is not to be a noise maker around the
president, but to perform the duties of oversight, legislation, and
representation. I will only give credit where it’s deserved,” he said during
the launch of a storey tuition building at Matisi Friends Primary School.
The legislator further said he will perform his duties with
respect to what his constituents expect of him, adding that he will not force
himself to heap praises on President Ruto if he is not delivering on his
election promises.
“What I speak is reflective of how my constituents feel. If
they are uncomfortable with the governance style of President Ruto, you can’t
expect me to betray them by claiming all is well when it’s not,” noted Mr.
Amisi.
Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah, who accompanied the
legislator, dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's political
alliance formation, saying he lacks the moral right to put the government in
check, as he was part of its alleged atrocities.
“Gachagua owes Kenyans an apology for sanctioning attacks on
peaceful demonstrators by the opposition when he was still in office. He should
also compensate everyone who suffered following his directions to contain
peaceful demonstrations,” said Wajackoyah.
Mr. Amisi stated that the flag bearer of the alliance who
will have the capacity to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 general
elections must be someone fresh, with a high level of integrity, and not a
recycled figure from past governments who once held influential positions.
