Supporters of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula have raised the alarm over a purported publicity conspiracy aimed at tarnishing his reputation and pushing for his impeachment.
The group, which staged protests in Kitale town, accused political rivals of orchestrating a smear publicity campaign to discredit Wetang'ula.
"We are urging the conspirators who are trying to tarnish the Speaker's image through biased publicity to stop immediately," said Mr. Boaz Werunga, a Ford Kenya official.
The supporters claimed to have observed a systematic pattern of negative media coverage targeting Wetang'ula’s character, which they argue is politically motivated.
"This is a political witch-hunt orchestrated by his opponents, who are resorting to negative publicity because they have run out of ideas," stated Harrison Wesa, Ford Kenya Youth leader.
They also appealed to Western Kenya Members of Parliament to resist any efforts to support an impeachment motion they believe lacks proper grounds.
"Our leaders should not be manipulated into participating in this political witch-hunt," said John Sululu, one of the protesters.
Bishop Andrew Wafula, another supporter, demanded an apology from those responsible for the alleged smear campaign, which he said has been prominent in the dailies in recent weeks.
