Governor Natembeya Urges President Ruto to Channel Same Energy into Kenya’s Economic Crisis as He Did for Raila’s AUC Bid

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has challenged President William Ruto to apply the same zeal he demonstrated in supporting Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) seat in tackling Kenya's critical economic problems.

Governor Natembeya accused the government of being inconsistent in carrying out its duties, while diverting attention to irrelevant matters that do not address the nation's core problems.

“It’s unfair for the government, under President Ruto’s leadership, to flip-flop on its mandate while prioritizing side issues. We want to see the government use the same vigor they employed in campaigning for Raila Odinga to secure jobs for the unemployed youth,” Natembeya stated.

The Governor highlighted the urgent need to tackle unemployment, especially among the youth.

He spoke to the mourners during the burial of Mr. Joseph Wekesa Murefu at Matisi. The deceased was the husband of Senior Chief Janet Wekesa.

Governor Natembeya also downplayed the perception that a political alliance between President Ruto and Raila Odinga would be , arguing that it would be irrelevant to the country’s political trajectory.

“It’s okay that all leaders who have been rejected by Kenyans are now regrouping. It will make it easier for us to send the whole lot packing in 2027,” he added, suggesting that such alliances would not have a meaningful impact on the political landscape.

Further, the Governor raised concerns over the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which he claimed were failing to meet the expectations of Kenyans.

“These programs are not working, and Kenyans are suffering as a result. Yet, the government seems misplaced in its approach to these critical issues,” Natembeya remarked, urging the government to reevaluate its priorities and policies for the benefit of the people.

One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
