More than 78 referrers have undergone training of Class III c Referee Certificate facilitated by the Football Kenya Federation in Trans Nzoia branch.
The trainees who included 15 ladies were drawn majorly from the teaching fraternity as the federation seeks to inject professionalism in school games.
"This is the second cohort of trainees in refereeing since we assumed office last year. We will keep imparting skills to raise the soccer standards in this county," said the FKF chairman Isaac Munene.
The three-day training which was held at the St. Anthony Boys Kitale encompassed literacy and physical training for the trainees.
"For us ladies, we are glad that more of us are getting exposure in this skill which will enable us to promote ladies soccer in our schools," said one of the lady referees.
Class III c certification usually refers to entry-level referees who are newly trained and certified. They can officiate at lower-tier competitions like youth leagues, school matches, or amateur games.
Mr. Munene also said the federation has heightened efforts of rooting out the culture of hooliganism in games through competent officiating.
