Youths Tell Off Senators Mandago & Cherargei, Defend Governor Natembeya

A group of youths from Trans Nzoia has strongly condemned Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and his Nandi counterpart Samson Cherargei, urging them to keep off Trans Nzoia County affairs.

The youths dismissed remarks by the two senators, who had termed area Governor George Natembeya as tribal, labeling the accusations as baseless.

"Senator Mandago has no moral authority to lecture anyone on matters of tribalism, yet he masterminded the fall of Moi University by rejecting Professor Laban Ayiro simply because he was not his kinsman," said Mr. Wekesa Edwin.

They further criticized the senators' calls to lead efforts to impeach Governor Natembeya, calling it a waste of time for residents who are focused on development.

"The two leaders are so misplaced and preoccupied with our Governor that they think they can influence his impeachment just because he is fighting for us," stated Mr. Joseph Mudenyo.

Mr. Mudenyo questioned why the two leaders are seemingly obsessed with Trans Nzoia’s affairs while neglecting their own counties.

The youths defended Governor Natembeya’s track record, saying he has shown himself to be a nationalist by accommodating diversity in his cabinet appointments.

"Governor Natembeya’s cabinet is diverse, unlike those in Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties where the two leaders come from, yet they have not complained," noted Mr. Simon Karanja.

They concluded by issuing an ultimatum, demanding that the two senators offer a public apology to the residents of Trans Nzoia and to Governor Natembeya.

Nursing Services Paralyzed in Trans Nzoia as Nurses Down Tools

Nursing services in public health facilities across Trans Nzoia County have been severely disrupted due to a strike by nurses. The strike was triggered by the county government's failure to address several key issues raised by the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNM), the union representing healthcare workers. KNUNM Trans Nzoia Secretary, Edward Cheruiyot, stated that despite mediation efforts by the Ministry of Labour, which appointed a conciliator, no resolution had been reached. “The union has done its part, but the government has failed to avert the strike. The conciliator was appointed, but no meetings have taken place, and no progress has been made,” Cheruiyot said. At the core of the strike are several unresolved issues. One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
