Trans Nzoia Woman Rep Hits Out at Ruto’s Critics Over Attacks on Flagship Projects

Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Mrs Lilian Siyoi has criticised leaders opposing President William Ruto, accusing them of targeting his flagship projects for selfish political gain.

Speaking during an economic empowerment forum at Embakasi village in Kinyoro Ward, Mrs Siyoi claimed that opposition politicians are deliberately politicising every initiative rolled out by the President to score cheap political points.

“These leaders have decided to politicise every project initiated by President Ruto, not because the projects are flawed, but simply to earn political mileage,” Mrs Siyoi said.

She urged Kenyans not to fall prey to what she described as misleading narratives being pushed by power-hungry politicians. Instead, she encouraged the public to focus on the real benefits of the government’s development programs.

The Woman Representative particularly defended the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), terming it a game changer in promoting universal healthcare and ensuring that vulnerable Kenyans can access treatment.

“Let nobody lie to you that SHIF doesn’t work. You are better off if you register and make your contributions. That way, you will be able to access medication when you need it most,” Mrs Siyoi emphasised.

Her remarks come amid ongoing political wrangles over the implementation of key government programs, with some opposition leaders questioning their sustainability and impact.

The government has maintained that initiatives such as SHIF are crucial in its efforts to achieve universal health coverage and uplift the living standards of ordinary Kenyans.

Nursing services in public health facilities across Trans Nzoia County have been severely disrupted due to a strike by nurses. The strike was triggered by the county government's failure to address several key issues raised by the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNM), the union representing healthcare workers. KNUNM Trans Nzoia Secretary, Edward Cheruiyot, stated that despite mediation efforts by the Ministry of Labour, which appointed a conciliator, no resolution had been reached. “The union has done its part, but the government has failed to avert the strike. The conciliator was appointed, but no meetings have taken place, and no progress has been made,” Cheruiyot said. At the core of the strike are several unresolved issues. One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
