Kwanza MP Pledges Support for Kolongolo Girls Infrastructure

Kwanza Member of Parliament Ferdinand Wanyonyi has pledged his support for infrastructure development at St. Francis of Assisi Kolongolo Girls Secondary School.

Wanyonyi said Sh 7 million from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) will go towards the completion of a storey tuition block, expected to ease congestion and improve the learning environment for the growing student population.

The MP also pledged to support the construction of a multipurpose hall in response to a request by the school principal, Mrs. Hellen Wanyonyi.

He revealed that plans are already underway, with the advertisement for the project expected soon to pave the way for its implementation.

“I have listened to the needs of the school, and I am committed to ensuring that our girls learn in a conducive environment,” said Wanyonyi said during the school's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The occasion also saw recognition of top performers in the 2024 KCSE examination, who were feted for their outstanding achievement.

In his address, the MP challenged the current class to exceed these results, urging students to remain focused and disciplined in their academic journey.

However, the legislator expressed concern over rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the region, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to the future of young girls.

“We must all play our part — parents, teachers, and the community — to protect our children from social challenges that derail their education and dreams,” he urged.

Wanyonyi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education initiatives across the constituency, particularly those aimed at empowering the girl child and promoting academic excellence.

Nursing Services Paralyzed in Trans Nzoia as Nurses Down Tools

Nursing services in public health facilities across Trans Nzoia County have been severely disrupted due to a strike by nurses. The strike was triggered by the county government's failure to address several key issues raised by the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNM), the union representing healthcare workers. KNUNM Trans Nzoia Secretary, Edward Cheruiyot, stated that despite mediation efforts by the Ministry of Labour, which appointed a conciliator, no resolution had been reached. “The union has done its part, but the government has failed to avert the strike. The conciliator was appointed, but no meetings have taken place, and no progress has been made,” Cheruiyot said. At the core of the strike are several unresolved issues. One of the primary concerns is the failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2025-2029 period. "Negotiations for the CBA have stalled. The government promised to form a committee to address the matter, ...
